Want Siri AI gone but still want Siri? This guide shows exactly how to switch back to Siri Classic, turn Siri off completely, disable ChatGPT, remove AI summaries, fix a missing Siri AI option, and control Siri conversation history in iOS 27.
The Direct Answer
Open Settings → Siri, scroll down and tap Turn Off Siri, confirm it, then tap Turn On Siri and choose Use Siri Classic. Apple documents this exact process for iOS 27.

This is the Apple-documented off-and-back-on method for returning to the previous version of Siri.
Open Settings on your iPhone and tap Siri.
Scroll to the bottom. Tap Turn Off Siri, then tap Turn Off Siri again to confirm.
Tap Turn On Siri, then choose Use Siri Classic. Some Apple pages shorten that button label to Siri Classic; choose the Classic option shown on your screen.
One More iPhone Check
Siri and Apple Intelligence settings can be changed again later. Your photos, videos and important files are much harder to replace. If you are already reviewing your iPhone settings, this is a good time to review your backup plan too.

Big iOS 27 Change
If you are searching for a single master Apple Intelligence switch and cannot find it, you are not looking in the wrong place. Apple's current iOS 27 guide documents individual controls for specific Apple Intelligence features instead.
Older guides may tell you to use one Apple Intelligence master toggle. For iOS 27, Apple's current support documentation instead tells you how to turn off Siri AI, summaries, priority notifications, smart replies, voicemail suggestions, Call Context, and other features separately.
| What you want off | iOS 27 path | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Siri AI | Settings → Siri → Turn Off Siri | Turns Siri off; turn it back on and choose Siri Classic if you still want Siri. |
| Messages summaries | Settings → Apps → Messages → Summarize Messages | Stops AI summaries from replacing conversation previews. |
| Mail summary previews | Settings → Apps → Mail → Summarize Message Previews | Turns off AI-generated Mail preview summaries. |
| Notification summaries | Settings → Notifications → Summarize Notifications | Stops stacked/long notifications from being summarized. |
| Priority notifications | Settings → Notifications → Prioritize Notifications | Stops Apple Intelligence from prioritizing selected notifications. |
| ChatGPT extension | Settings → Siri → Extensions → ChatGPT | Turns off ChatGPT access while keeping Siri AI available. |
| Siri AI capabilities via Screen Time | Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → Siri | Lets you allow Siri Classic, block Siri, or restrict specific Siri AI capabilities. |
Apple's available controls can vary by device, Siri version, language, and region.
Keep Siri, Remove ChatGPT
Go to Settings → Siri → Extensions → ChatGPT, then turn off Use Extension.
Go to Settings → Siri → ChatGPT, then turn off Use ChatGPT. Apple also provides a Setup Prompts control outside Siri AI.
Troubleshooting
Check these before assuming the update failed.
Siri AI requires an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone. Apple currently lists iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 models or later, and supported newer models.
As of September 26, 2026, Apple says Siri AI is currently available in English, and your device language and Siri language need to match a supported language. A mismatch can prevent the option from appearing.
Siri AI availability varies by region. Apple says it is not initially available on iOS in the European Union, and other regional restrictions can apply.
On a supported device, open Settings → Siri. Apple says the Siri AI setup option appears there when your device and account meet the requirements.
iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Pro matters. Apple specifically lists the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max as supported. A standard iPhone 15 does not become Siri AI-capable simply because it can run iOS 27.
If You Want Siri Completely Gone
Settings → Siri → Turn Off Siri → Turn Off Siri. This turns off Siri rather than merely switching from Siri AI to Siri Classic.
Privacy & Conversation History
iOS 27 includes a dedicated Siri app with conversation history. Apple lets you delete individual conversations and choose how long conversations are kept.
Go to Settings → Siri → Keep Conversations, then choose an available retention period such as 30 Days or 1 Year. Apple warns older conversations are permanently deleted when the retention setting applies.
Open the Siri app, touch and hold a conversation and choose Delete, or use the selection controls to delete multiple conversations.
After you finish reviewing Siri history and privacy settings, take a minute to make sure the photos, videos and files you care about have a backup plan.

Open Settings → Siri and choose Try Siri AI (Beta). Apple says setup availability can depend on your device, language, region, account eligibility, and the Siri AI download or waitlist process.
