The Furnace is the center of survival and progression, but the buildings supporting it determine how efficiently you grow.

Queue prerequisites before the Furnace is readyTap the next Furnace level early and note its required buildings. Upgrade those prerequisites while the current Furnace timer is still running.
Protect construction uptimeStart long builds before sleep or work. Use shorter upgrades while active. Ask for alliance help before applying speedups so free reductions are not wasted.
Watch heat, food, and survivor healthEarly cities can suffer when the Furnace is under-fueled or survivors remain cold and sick. Use higher heat during severe cold when needed, but monitor fuel consumption.
Do not neglect Embassy and ResearchThe Embassy improves alliance-help value and often gates progression. Research improvements compound across construction, gathering, training, and combat.
Use the longest timer to plan the next three actionsBefore a Furnace upgrade ends, know the next prerequisite, research project, and troop goal.

Heroes, Skills, Shards and Gear

Hero generations change by state age, so the durable strategy is concentration—not chasing every new portrait.

Build a small primary rosterConcentrate experience, skill books, shards, and gear on heroes you actually deploy.
Separate exploration from expedition valueA hero can be excellent in Arena or Exploration yet less valuable as a rally leader or joiner. Read both skill sets before investing rare materials.
Think beyond the current bannerNew hero generations arrive as states mature. Free and low-spend players should avoid exhausting universal shards unless the hero fills a long-term need.
Upgrade your strongest formation firstFocused gear on heroes who lead your main march usually improves real battle results more than evenly upgrading unused pieces.
